So I didn’t think I’d write a proper blog on here, but I thought I’d try to write a summary of my first trip abroad. So here goes…
DAY 1: You are now departing Stansted on board Ryan Air flight number FR2194
So I arrived at Stansted with plenty of time to kill before my flight, but this being my first time flying I needed some help to find where to go exactly but I found my way eventually. My luggage went through fine, I passed through security fine, though I did have to remove my boots twice, I got to the terminal okay and boarded my plane on time. However if I had known about the so-called “Priority Q” before hand I would have used that because it did take forever before the standard passengers got to board the plane.
The sun was just going down on England and the plane was soon to take depart, though I was beginning to realize I wasn’t going to see the skyline very well from my window seat as it seemed to take record time to go from sun setting to almost pitch black. Still I had my face pinned to the window for a considerable time during and after take off.
So finally realizing there was little else to see in the blackness of the skyline I turned to read my book, but I was too excited still to do so. There was a child and his mother next to me who seemed entertained by over excitability in this flight. I explained to them that this was my first flight abroad and they were delighted that I would come to Finland (their native country) for my first trip abroad. We introduced ourselves to each other I as Bob, the boy Isaac and the mother Sana, the father (Chris) was sitting some seats behind them. As the flight went on, we passed the time playing on the Nintendo DS that I brought with me, though for the most part it was not I who was playing it.
Landing came as some surprise because I wasn’t aware that we even went over Sweden, and I saw no lights but that could be explained by the amount of fog and rain experienced when we landed. So I made my way to check out of Tampere airport, which was tiny by any standards. When I got to passport control though the passport inspector grilled me for twenty or so minutes about my identification, why I was here, where was I staying, was I visiting anyone. This went on for a bit, I explained I was here on a holiday visiting my friend Elina in Nokia. In time he let me go, taking note of the address I was staying at and how long I would stay in the country, which wasn’t long.
It didnt take me long to find my bags and get out of the airport. I found a taxi driver who spoke pretty good English and he took me all the way to Nokia to Elina’s house, and boy was I glad to see Eli and TJ. I had met them both while at university and they became almost family to me, so seeing them again after months was very good and a special moment for me. It was however very late now, and there was a long day ahead of us so it was time to rest my weary head, and rest it I did. Sleep came very easy…
